Osteopathy

osteopathy, physiotherapy, acupuncture, chinese herbal remedies from southviewclinic.co.uk Marlow Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment that involves the application of manual techniques such as manipulation, mobilization, stretching and massage to correct mechanical dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system.

Typical conditions treated effectively include:-

  • Low, mid and upper back and neck pain.
  • Sports injuries.
  • Peripheral joint conditions such as tennis elbow, frozen shoulder and ankle and foot disorders.
  • Migraine and headaches.

A thorough case history is taken. Osteopathic examination based on palpatory evaluation of the affected area and its surrounding structures is carried out. Standard orthopaedic tests are also used and in more complex cases, X rays and scans may be requested. Once a diagnosis is made, this and the treatment protocol is discussed with the patient before proceeding. As well as hands on treatment, advice regarding posture, exercise and other relevant lifestyle issues affecting the condition maybe given to prevent recurrence.

At the Southview Clinic we practice Traditional Chinese Acupuncture to treat a wide range of conditions.

We use Acupuncture alongside Physiotherapy and Osteopathy in an integrated holistic approach to the management of pain and inflammation. The body has the ability to self repair. Acupuncture is used to enhance this process and improve recovery time.

A wide background of clinically based research and evidence supports the biochemical relationship between Acupuncture and healing.

Acupuncture Techniques

Acupuncture involves the use of single use, pre-sterilised, disposable needles. A number of needles may be used at each treatment and they are typically left in position for up to 20-30 minutes before being removed.

Trigger point Acupuncture is of much shorter duration. It may be used to facilitate relaxation and pain relief in specific muscles where there is muscle imbalance or following trauma, eg whiplash, sports injuries.

Sometimes the needles are heated using moxibustion for example when treating a circulatory impaired arthritic joint.

Electroacupuncture may also be used in the treatment of chronic pain conditions.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine sits alongside Acupuncture within the traditional Chinese medical framework. In its country of origin, it is widely used in state hospitals alongside Western medicine.

Common conditions treated include digestive disorders, Women’s health, Infertility, compromised immune function, fatigue, insomnia, respiratory conditions, allergies and skin problems.

Herbs are administered in loose, powder or pill /capsule form. Patient preferences and the presenting condition determine the method of administration.
